Patronus: Soft on Crime
While I can sympathize with Patronus' reservations at the restriction of post-release liberties in the general sense, I think it behooves us all to take a brief vacation from the clouds and spend a few moments in the real world.
In the real world, there are real criminals. And real victims. And lots and lots of potential future victims.
We can debate where the line should be drawn, but I think any rational person would agree that it lies far beyond Ms. Homolka.
It's great to suggest that she should have been given a longer sentence orginally - but she wasn't, because of something called a plea bargain that for better or worse plays a fairly pivotal role in our justice system.
The Section of the Code to which Patronus refers below plays an even more central role, keeping in mind the state's most sacrosanct duty of protecting its citizens from harm.
Let's keep it, and let's use it.
